Powers Construction company began with the realization that there was a niche market for an authentic log cabin that brought back a sense of heritage and tradition.  A preservation of traditions and values of a time that is past, but not forgotten in the hearts and minds of many.
We realized that after having built a number of conventional residential homes, the knowledge and experience, we had gained, would lend themselves well to this new direction for our company.
The company is small, just Jim, John, Mark and Jill.  For larger jobs we have affiliated with a firm and carpenters that have been in the business for many years.  We give careful attention to detail and when we leave your building site, your cabin will look like it has been there for many years.  A comfortable place for friends and family to spend the weekend,  or a lifetime, with you and your family.  A place of pride and heritage.
We hope you will give us a call and let us help you realize your dream of having a "notched up" log cabin, you can call your own.

About Powers Construction Company
Why A Log Cabin
Log cabins make sense on many levels.

1.  There is, of course, that sense of pride and heritage -  that owners of log cabins experience.
2.  Log cabins are very durable.  They have and will stand the test of time.  I am sure you will recall old cabins you have seen or the pleasure you get from looking at photos of "old log cabins."  There is something deep within us all that connects to that old log cabin.
3.  Log cabins are very comfortable.  The walls act as a "heat sink" to hold and radiate back, into the interior space, the heat generated there.  It takes very little energy to heat these small cabins.  We use the most modern products, when we build them, to ensure you have no air penetration, thereby improving their energy efficiency.  We also insulate the floor and ceiling with foil faced polystyrene to add to the reflective value of the insulation.   The "thermal mass", combined with the R-factor of the wood, moderates the temperature so that you are warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  A well constructed, air tight, well insulated structure is the key to energy savings.
4.  Log homes hold their value well.  Having one on your property will greatly improve it's value, and your net worth.
5.  There is the intrinsic, esthetic value that you see, when you look at "your log cabin" that makes the most sense of all.  It is the very reason you know - you should own one.
How We Build Them & What They Cost
   1.  We use piers  as the foundation of our cabins.  We construct the piers using concrete blocks which sit on ABS pads.  Our piers are spaced, on a six foot grid.
   2.  We use 6x8 hemlock (or treated wood) as girders to support the floor joist.
   3.  We use "store bought" 2 X 8 pine, spaced on 16 inch centers, as our floor joist.  This can vary depending on the size of your cabin and the span of the floor joist.
   4.  We insulate, using polystyrene, and then seal your floor.  You will have no air or bugs, coming up into your cabin.
   5.  We use , 6x8 white pine to construct  your walls, and we notch them at the corners with a full, compound, dovetail notch.
   6.  We will use  metal, cedar shake, or asphalt shingles to finish off your roof.  We insulate your roof, either inside or outside.

Estimated cost to finish your cabin would be approximately $94 per sq. ft.   This includes all labor and material.  It does not include any landscaping, which would be extra.
